Reverse the ban on registered charities rehoming animals to the UK from Eastern Europe
Like many other families in the UK we have a dog and our dog is originally from Romania. She has brought companionship, happiness and a little bit of chaos into our lives! When she was found at only 8 weeks old she and her siblings were fending for themselves and had been attacked by humans. Fortunately, she was rescued by an amazing lady and found her home with us in the UK through a registered charity.
It breaks my heart to think that other animals in this situation will not experience the safety of a good home because the government has recently and without warning changed the laws around adopting animals from Eastern Europe. We were supported in our adoption by a wonderful and responsible UK based registered Charity who ensured that all dogs entering the UK are fully vaccinated against ALL diseases, were micro chipped and pet passported.
The governments decision to ban the chance of animals being given a home in the UK makes no sense. The charities that do this work already fully comply with all these restrictions and go above and beyond to protect biosecurity in the UK. By changing these regulations the government has cut off a valuable lifeline for these charities just at the time when they are doing all they can to continue their work and support those with pets to resettle who have been forced to flee Ukraine. Without these charities being able to rehome to the UK many charities are now at financial breaking point and having to consider whether the animals they want to help will have to be returned to the streets.
Please sign and more importantly share this petition so that these charities can continue doing this vital work. Please write to your MP’s. We need to show the UK government that they need to make an exception for charities that are already compliant and reassure them that this does not pose any risk to UK bio-security whatsoever but is causing unnecessary and cruel suffering to those in need and those who are only trying to help.
