First of all, we are not against you purchasing a compagnon, as long as they come from a respected, registered breeder. Should you want to purchase a pet, there are proper ways to check the place and chose an animal. This is a separate topic...
We do however also recommend you reflect whether adopting a pet would be a better choice for you.
A few reasons why you could adopt:
- You save an animal life – By adopting, you are giving an animal another chance at life, another home!
- You can find a furrr-ever friend! - there are all sizes, breeds and colours of animals available for adoption. And they are all very unique!
- You support rescues – you will support organisations really caring for animals and not backyard breeder farms who put profit above everything. Money raised from adoptions are reinvested into rescues and animals themselves.
- You help stop pet overpopulation – rather than bringing new animals to the world, you help manage an already huge pets population.
- You get additional support – most rescues remain available after adoption process is completed. This means you can always come back to ask questions and receive advice. Often, you can also receive behavioural help from the rescues.
- You adopt a healthy pet – your new compagnon would be health checked, vaccinated, treated against internal and external parasites, neutered/spayed and microchipped.
- You will serve an example to others – your friends and family are likely to follow your example. And pets are waiting for your next move!
- Your new compagnon may be an adult - this is a good thing! Adolescent/Adult pets are less likely to damage things, will know how to walk on a lead and know at least some commands (dogs). It is ver likley they will be making less of a mess.
- Your reward? – Animals are often very sad/depressed when in rescues and shelters. They transform at home! They become your best friends and are forever grateful, they will unconditionally love you each and every day of their life!
